Lone Tree at Lake Wanaka
My reason for visiting Wanaka was this lone tree ... Apparently I wasn't the only one with this idea! Who knew it was so close to town AND so ridiculously popular? The crowd at 3:15pm ...
No crowds at 6:30am ... The sun had just begun to hit the mountains, but hadn't reached the "lone tree" just yet.
Half an hour later (7:07 am) and the sun found the "lone tree" and it was time for me to find some coffee!
Swing bridge over the Matukituki River. Mount Edward in the background
Beautiful drive from Lake Wanaka back to the west coast and up to Lake Moeraki. Only downside? The sand flies were waiting for me on the west side of the pass! I had forgotten all about them ...
Beautiful morning driving along Lake Hawea.
Little further along Lake Hawea, loving the yellows and greens contrasting with the water's blue!
A brief stop at Fantail Falls before being chased off by rain AND sand flies (mosquitoes)
Thunder Creek Falls, after the rains passed and a liberal slathering of mosquito repellant.
