My weeklong "run" around Taz ... Starting and finishing in Launceston. Clockwise Launceston to Swansea / Freychinet National Park, then on to Hobart, Strahan and Candle Mountain...

My first venture out after arriving in Launceston ... A walk up Cataract Gorge (path is to the right side of the gorge)

Heavy rain kept me in Launceston for a second day, but started to clear on the third day and off I set for Freycinet...

Throughout my travels in New Zealand and Australia the skies on a clear night were amazing ....

Sunrise caught me by surprise -- thought it would be solid clouds ... so there was a bit of a mad dash down to the shorline to catch this ;-)

  • On my drive to Hobart, this scene caught my eye so I circled back. I shot for a bit and was ready to head back to the car when I noticed a commotion up the beach -- found a poor shag whose wings had become entangled in a fisherman's unattended line. He was flayling about and dragging the rod/reel toward the ocean as he tried to get loose. I was able to gently pull him to shore and eventually unravel the line from his wing... and off he flew. Quite an adrenilin rush... Just as I finished, the fisherman starts wandering down to check his line --- I gave him a nasty look and walked back to the car ...

    MONA | Hobart

My favorite place in Hobart was MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) ... Some incredible architecture and a huge variety of modern art --- ranging from "very cool" to "huh?" to "gross" ... Totally worth it. This one is an infinity pool concept using motor oil to create a black mirrorlike surface ...
