While the island has its fair share of kangaroos, I'm not sure that the name is appropriate ... There are a lot of sea lions, koalas, and pelicans too!
Naracoorte to Cape Jervis (5hrs) to make my 2:30pm Kangaroo Island ferry ...
My ride to Kangaroo Island
A 45 min (16km) ferry ride from Cape Jervis to Kangaroo Island on a beautiful day! Life is good!
Pelican
After settling into my accommodations, I walked to dinner and this lovely pelican was dancing in the stiff evening breeze.
Kangaroo Island in a day!
This was the plan ... a clockwise loop around the island, hitting all the highlights ... and it might have worked were it not for some Google map "hiccups" ... ;-)
Traveler's long shadow
First stop was Seal Bay conservation park ... and as it was still early in the morning, I was castig a particularly long shadow ... reminded me of a cowboy in a western ...
This way to the beach ...
Our way to the beach was hindered by a sleeping sealion ... who we tiptoed around ...
We needed to tip toe past this sleeping sea lion ... but he seemed pretty mellow about the whole deal ...
A sea lion couple sleeping off a wild couple of days at sea ...
Sea lions spend several days feeding at sea so they can come back and rest for a few days on shore ... while searching for their dinner at sea, they are at a high risk of being someone else's dinner (sharks) ...

"And watch out for sharks ... Don't stay out too late ... and ..."

Cape du Coeuedic Lightstation
From Seal Bay on to Flinders Chase National Park... First up, the cape and Admirals Arch
Admirals Arch
The arch was a bit anticlimatic, but the rocks, waves and sealions all but made up for it!
Admirals Arch
Amazing rocks seemingly bursting from the sea (note the lone sealion in the lower left corner)
Remarkable Rocks
Next stop, aptly named, "Remarkable Rocks"

Asking a local for directions
Google Maps and I had a bit of a misunderstanding for the rest of the loop ... putting me in the middle of farm ranges and narrow, one track roads to nowhere ... So I had to ask a local about how to get back to Kingscote ...
Western River Bay
It was already approaching 5pm when I wrapped up with the koalas and Flinders Chase ... and I still had half the island to visit!
Pelicans at Emu Bay
The next morning, I managed to find Emu Bay (the Bay) instead of Emu Bay (the area) ... two very different spots on the island ...
Pelicans at Emu Bay
Next stop ... Adelaide
A quick drive across the island to meet the ferry and then a 2 hr drive north to Adelaide and my train to Perth! Stay tuned!
